Trying to upgrade os

I have a MacBook Pro (2010) running OS High Sierra. I tried to download Catalina but get a message that it cannot be downloaded on this computer. Is it just too old or are there other steps I must perform to enable it to upgrade to Catalina?

Your Mac is too old. High Sierra (10.13) is the highest you can go.
