iMac keeps freezing except I can move mouse

This has been going on a few weeks. The computer will freeze and I can move the mouse around but if I click nothing happens. It will stay this way for a few minutes. Sometimes it will come out on its own, other times I have to reboot.

The machine isn't even 3 years old. Anyone have an idea what I can do to diagnose? I am on Mojave.

iMac 21.5″, OS X 10.11

My insignificant 2 cents -- by increasing your memory (at least, 27" iMacs are for user-friendly memory upgrade).

8G is barely as there are 2 more slots for sizeable memory upgrade. (Per Apple, 32Gb is the max, but OWC reported 64Gb max)

By the way, not all memory modules are created equal -- get memory directly from either Crucial or OWC for your specific model. (2017 iMac)

I actually was looking online and it seems pretty easy to upgrade the ram in an iMac, you just pop open the back door and slide it in. I was thinking I had to take apart the whole computer. So I think I can try to do it myself.

According to Apple, though, my machine, which is a 2017 27" imac, can do 64gb: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201191#install1

Where is best place to buy RAM at a good price? I am on budget but I am willing to do it myself if it helps my computer run better...

Uninstall Sophos & run etrecheck again.

Delete these files & restart...

  1. /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_service.plist
  2. /Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer.plist
  3. /Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_desktop.plist

Everything uses more RAM these days, every update is a step or two backwards for RA|M & speed.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

The important part is...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

Thanks. I am not really tech savvy enough to replace the RAM myself. There is a mac store in my neighborhood (not Apple but a small business). I can ask them but curious as to why this was not a problem until recently? I am all for upgrading it but money is tight right now. So, yeah, wondering why for almost 3 years no problem until recently.

I am confused why these keep showing up when I deleted them:

Clean up:

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_desktop.plist
