How Do I Upgrade to High Sierra from El Capitan

I have an early 2011 Macbook pro (8,1). I'm currently running El Capitan (10.11.6). I recently installed an SSD and more RAM. Now, i'd like to update the operating system. Apple's website says that High Sierra is the OS for anything pre-2012. After much digging, i found this page (https://support.apple.com/downloads/high-sierra), but i can't find High Sierra version 10.13. Wondering what i need to do to upgrade to High Sierra. Do i need to upgrade from El Capitan to Sierra first and then upgrade to High Sierra? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there,

You can install macOS High Sierra (10.13) with this download: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1953?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

The version number is 10.13.3, but it's still High Sierra. Apple regularly updates its software to address issues and improve performance and security. 10.13.3 is the most up to date and secure version of High Sierra.

Update: Because this download is a combo update, you do not need to update to Sierra first. This download will let you go straight to High Sierra

I recently upgraded my RAM and installed a SSD on my MacBook Pro 2010. I believe I had to upgrade to Sierra first and then to High Sierra. Make sure to watch a good YouTube video since there is a couple important steps in formatting that new SSD. Hope this is helpful ?

Sorry for not responding sooner, Bert. The combo update did not work. I ended up calling Apple Support, and they had me update from El Capitan to Sierra. Once I updated to Sierra, i was then able to update to High Sierra. I downloaded and updated using the 10.13.3 combo update.

Hope that helps.
