Unable to update or add payment method

I received an email that I needed to verify my payment method for my iCloud storage account. I went to settings and tried to verify by adding the required code but there was no option to verify. I could only remove the card. So I removed it and have now tried to add a new payment method but it won’t let me as it says I have to verify the existing method (which I deleted). Can anyone help?
