When you chose to Erase the disk, the Format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

And you could choose a Name, say Macintosh HDD

Then select Macintosh HDD (or whatever name you've given) and go ahead with the installation..

If you want to start again from scratch, this might be helpful.

Hello,

It sounds like you have formatted the hard disk drive in unsupported format as a startup disk. Since I have very little information about your system, if it happened to me, I will try these;

Take out the hard disk drive and reformat it

or I will try using the target (T) disk mode (via firewire) and reformat the hard disk.

Then re-install mac OS X.

Hope this helps.
