Okay YR511, thank you!

Had you previously been on a FaceTime video call and switched to another app before it ended? The only reason you should see the FaceTime video icon on the status bar is if you have an active call going. That being said, if the call isn't ended, the icon will show there when you Use other apps during a FaceTime call on iPad.

If that isn't the case, and the icon is still showing on the status bar, we recommend that you Contact Apple Support directly for further troubleshooting.

Best wishes!

That's interesting, YR511!

It sounds like the call may have frozen in the background somehow when he switched apps and didn't officially close. It may have been a one time issue with the app freezing. We would recommend just making sure the iPad is up to date with the latest iPadOS releases. If the issue continues, or you notice other apps freezing or not closing, we would recommend that you Contact Apple Support directly to isolate the issue further.

Best wishes!

My son was on a FaceTime call with his buddy and I believe he switched to play a game while the call was in the background but at some point his buddy hung up. The icon remained on and when we double clicked the home button to see if the FaceTime app was still open, the app itself wasn’t but it showed a blurry home screen image and it wouldn’t let us swipe up to delete it. It’s fixed itself since it happened but I just never saw that happen before and it drained the battery.
