Change AppleID/email address ONLY

I’ve had the same email (gmail) address for over 10 years, and it has accumulated a lot of junk mail and nonsense, plus it’s just difficult to spell it out to someone over the phone. So i have a new email address and I’m in the process of switching all of my other accounts and info over.

I’ve used my old email address as my AppleID since I first got an iPhone, but I’d like to use this new email instead. However, I don’t want to change or lose anything else, like phone numbers, purchases, etc. I only want to change my AppleID to the new email address. Is this possible? I believe it’s the AppleID.apple.com account page, but I just wanted to verify that it wasn’t a “sign into a different account” option. Thanks!

How to change your Apple ID to a different email address

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
  2. In the Account section, choose Edit.
  3. Choose Change Apple ID.
  4. Enter the email address that you want to use. If you choose a me.com, mac.com, or iCloud.com address, you won't be able to change your Apple ID email address again.
  5. Choose Continue.
  6. If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your email for a verification code. When you sign in with your new Apple ID, you need to enter the verification code. Learn what to do if you didn't get the email.
  7. If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID.

Post back if you have questions about what you can do if your Apple ID (1) is a third-party apple ID or (2) ends in icloud.com, me.com, or mac.com.
