Hi, a year or 2 ago, when I heard Apple no longer supported 64bit(?) apps, I hastily trashed the Apple DVD Player app. Now I want it bck, as apparently we now can run DVDs on Mac.
Q: How do I get back that app? How can I play DVDs on my 2013 iMac

Check inside /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications.
Click on your Desktop to make Finder frontmost, and press shift+command+G keys to pop the Go to Folder dialog. Enter the path above, and press GO. You can drag and drop DVD Player to your Dock, and then with a right-click on the DVD Player Dock Icon, tell its options menu to Keep in Dock.
If it doesn't exist, this could work as an alternative: (VCL) https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

As long as I have your attention, do you know why Apple hurried this app & made it so hard to find? Also, I'm assuming I can make an alias & put it on the dock, right?

I would assume that due to the reduction in the use and production of DVDs from movies to data altogether influenced the decision. It was nice that they updated it to 64-bit and also appear normally when a DVD is inserted.
To the second question, Yes, an alias should work as usual.
