Macbook to macbook migration

Seeking on how to resolve this notice: "The selected source cannot be used for migration. Volume contains an OS X release that is too old"

Hello Mokomo,


Thanks for posting on Apple Support Communities. We see that you are trying to migrate data from one MacBook to another. You keep receiving an error that the OS version on the older MacBook is too old.


This is happening because the older MacBook is not running OS Lion (10.7.5) or later. In order to use Migration Assistant you will need to upgrade the operating system of your older MacBook to at least OS 10.7.5. For more information on Migration Assistant requirements check out these articles:


How to move your content to a new Mac.


Find out which macOS your Mac is using.


If you choose not to update your old MacBook you can still manually migrate your information to the new computer. This article can help guide you through that process:


OS X: Manually migrating data from another Mac.
