Lack of apps

I have a MacBook Pro 7.1 and found a distinct lack of apps I need. Why is there such a shortage and why can't I find any to download?

If you have a MBP 7,1 then it is something like 10 years old. What OS are you running? Apple considers this machine obsolete: Vintage and obsolete products. The hardware and OS capabilities of such a machine are limited, as you are finding. There is not much to be done; modern apps expect to run on relatively modern hardware and OS.
