Use my iMac as windows laptop monitor

I would like to use my 21" iMac from Mid 2010 as a monitor for my windows laptop.

I have the Thunderbolt/HDMI cable and Cmd+F2 doesn’t work.

Thank you

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

Two issues. The wrong cabling is irrelevant in the following cases:

  1. Target display mode requires a 27 inch iMac between Late-2009 and mid-2014.
  2. Target display mode is only compatible between two Macs, with item [1] running High Sierra or older.
