Not the answer you want but...
There is no recovery process for older security methods. If you can't answer the security questions and can't get an email, you have permanently lost access to that Apple ID.

That sounds like you created a new Apple ID rather than change the email address for your Apple ID account. All purchases made from the iTunes & App Store are tied forever to the account that they were purchased with. If you see this request when updating apps the only option is to delete those apps and repurchase them.
If this isn’t the problem please provide more detail about when you are asked for the old password.

Resetting your password is not entirely dependent of having access to that email address.
Do you know your security questions? Did you add a rescue email address?
Your Apple ID password is not the same as the password for the email address you use as an Apple ID unless you made them the same. And the Apple ID can still be valid even if the associated email account no longer exists.

I use my comcast id on my laptop and ipad. But the old apple id with bellsouth keeps getting transferred onto my iphones when i get a new one. How do i get rid of bellsouth and replace it with my Comcast apple id?
My iphone constantly asks for the password for bellsouth.
Sorry, this did not help. When i go to settings and tap password and security it still asks me for my password.
