I presume your refer explicitly to an Apple Power Adapter. If so, then yes - it will safely work with your iPad Pro.
However, the iPad will only charge at the maximum rate that it supports - this being 5V@2.4A (12W) or 12V@1.5A (18W) for Power Adapters that support the USB-PD charging standard.
