PINK (Purple) screen !!!!! 2018 Macbook Pro (bought in January 2019)

4 days ago, I woke and used my 2018 Macbook Pro to start my morning routine. After I came back from shower, I opened up the lid and the screen was showing me a full of pink color. I never dropped it nor damaged it. I have two laptops 2018 Samsung Series 9 and 2018 Macbook Pro. I use Macbook Pro mainly to work on my patients. I can't think of anything that would damage the laptop. So I searched pink monitor on YouTube. And surprisingly, there are so many similar cases posted. So I scheduled an appointment with Apple store at Union Square in San Francisco. But they told me it is out of warranty and I need to pay $475. Obviously, I won't buy the same product if I have to pay for that is not my fault. I was wondering if any of you guys had/have the same problem and be able to solve the problem? I am very disappointment with the quality of Apple products. I am a heavy Apple user. I am currently using iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, apple watch, Airpod 2, and iPhone Xs. Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions before I change everything into Samsung.

According to some users, reseting the NvRam might work.


  1. Shut down your Mac and turn it back on immediately.
  2. Press and hold Option, Command, P, and R keys.
  3. On older models, wait until the startup sound plays for the second time and then release the keys. On the newer models, wait until the Apple logo appears and disappears for the second time and then release the keys.


Another option is to disable dedicated and integrated graphics switching


  1. Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
  2. Now head over to the Energy section.
  3. Uncheck the Automatic graphics switching option.


Booting into Safe Mode for Macs.


  1. Restart your Mac
  2. Hold down Shift until log in screen appears

It's all pink (magenta) with only black and shades of gray over it? No white areas at all?


If so, you've lost the green channel. The remaining red and blue of RGB makes magenta. No, it's not your fault, but neither is it Apple's. When you make millions of something, hardware is going to fail on some of them.


Yes, it really bites that it's two years old and apparently has failed graphics. Though it could just be a cable from the system board to the display panel. It sounds like you were quoted the cost of replacing the entire screen when that may not even be necessary.


I assume you don't have AppleCare+ on it? If you did, it would still be under warranty.


But definitely try StanleyG's suggestion, first. If that doesn't work. Try resetting the SMC.
