Sony PMB Portable - help please

You need to delete, trash, uninstall that Sony Software and use iPhoto.

With your Camera connected go to: Applications, open the Image Capture Application and set it up to automatically open iPhoto when the camera is connected to the iMac.

I have a lot of other camera's +(Kodak, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon)+, but not a Sony and to be perfectly honest I'm not sure what Sony is doing there? They all think that they need to control how and what we do, for example Panasonic's firmware wants to try and keep us from using after market ion batteries.

To me it looks like PMB is a motion picture browser feature and once again to be perfectly honest I'm not sure how or if it can be disabled. Maybe go thru your camera's handbook and see if there is a way to disable or turn off the motion picture or browser mode.

Hopefully someone with a Sony, will see this thread and help us out.

i was having the same problem and got some great online tech support from sony. i love this camera but was near the end of my rope trying to get my photos onto my macbook pro. the fix is so easy that it makes you wonder why sony just doesn't put a couple of sentences in the manual or online.

all you need to do is go into your settings and change the USB Connect setting to "PTP". Once you've done that connect the camera dock USB to your Mac (leave the camera off the dock). Next, turn on your camera and put it in playback mode, set it on your dock and iPhoto will pop up and start showing your available photos for download. this kind of connection doesn't throw any icon onto your desktop or seem to require any type of ejection of the device. I just turned off the camera and pulled the plug on the USB.

just realized that i might not have been as clear as i should have been. the USB Connect setting needs to be changed to "PTP" on the TX-7. didn't have to mess with the macbook or iphoto settings at all.

Hey Pete! I was having the same problem and I'm always happy to find solutions to everything here.

To find movies in Mp4 format: (this was with mine at least)

- Once the camera is connected and you see the memory card on your desktop, open it up.
- Open Folder "MP_ROOT"
- Open Folder "102MNV01"
- Should be in there

If you can't find them there, just keep searching around in the folders in the actual memory card. They will look like movies. Note: Any files with extension "xxxx.THM" are for the CAMERA use only. They are basically thumbnails/references/links for the camera's software to use.

Otherwise, iPhoto should show your movies no matter what.

Actually now I see your problem... When on any other mode, you can't import any movies... Can't see the memory card... iPhoto doesn't recognize any movies on the card.

I have no idea. The Search goes on.

Thanks for the useful info. Now have PMB portable not opening.
However, I can't see the movie files that are on the camera. Any ideas?
