Bought locked iPad on eBay

Bought a locked iPad off of eBay. Quickly contacted the seller upon receiving the iPad when I found it Activation Locked. They seemed to believe that it could be reset without their help and refused to help any further, claiming they couldn’t remove the device from their account. Now I’m basically stuck with a paper weight. The sellers name matches the owner’s name on the iTunes account during the restoring process so I’m assuming it’s the owner.

Can Apple remove the lock if I show proof of purchase? How can I remove this lock???

1. Not for you. eBay isn't an authorized source.

2. You can't. Ask the seller again and/or ask eBay for a refund.

If they can't remove it from their account, the issue needs to be dealt with by them, not you.

Not if you know and ask the right questions and ask for additional info before purchase.

If you must purchased used devices from unknown sources, you must ask A WHOLE LOT more questions of the iOS device seller, ask for more photo/images, ask if the iPad has user/iCloud activation lock and ask for photos/images/short video proof, ANY REAL, UNQUESTIONABLE PHYSICAL/ VISUAL PROOF, that such an iPad has been reset to factory settings and shown proof of the iOS device's start up screen showing the animated, moving, multi-language “Hello” Welcome to iPad screen.

If the iOS device seller is unwilling to do all of this to show you that the iPad, in question, is ready to use with no barriers to new user activation and use, pass on the iOS device and look at other iOS device sellers, elsewhere, who will be more accommodating to answering questions and providing visual image or video proof of a proper factory reset iPad.

I purchased my recent, older 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro from a single iPad owner/user, eBay seller and, after asking a lot of pointed questions and for images of the screen showing the animated “Welcome” screen in multi-languages, the seller was very accommodating and supplied my with everything I ask for and then some and that seller made a sale from me.

This iPad was like new and was reset properly for sale and the seller did a very excellent job of packing this iPad for shipping.

I was really impressed by how well this iPad was packed and shipped when I received it!

It's all about being a diligent and knowledgeable consumer/customer.

You will never get this iPad working

See my advice in my above post about being careful when purchasing used devices from eBay or other unknown, untrusted sources for used Apple iOS devices.

You are much safer just purchasing a new or new, refurbished iPad from Apple or from other authorised Apple resellers, like Walmart, BestBuy, Amazon, etc..

Guys, you completely missed the ball on this one. I’m not looking for your advice or need to know where to make my purchases. I simply needed a basic yes or no answer to my question. FYI, I buy several iPads on eBay at a time and this is certainly not my first time nor my last. This just so happens to be the one time I received an activation locked iPad. I got a full refund for the purchase already so I didn’t lose anything on this, just needed to know if it were possible to get passed this. Seems outrageous to think that such a sophisticated piece of technology can literally be reduced to nothing. I’m more than likely going to sell it for parts as I would still like to make some money on the deal.
