No Audio input on G4!?

I bought a used Quicksilver, and went to capture some video, with audio of course, and.... it has no audio input! That's pathetic. In fact, it's beyond pathetic--it's sick. I have a drawer full of microphones (Mac, PC, professional, etc.) and i can't use any of them..?!

Is there an adapter or something that will let you use a standard mic with the QS? I have no intention of buying more hardware, e.g. a USB mic, when i have tons already. Not since the days of the Intel 486 have i seen a computer with no audio input. Thanks.

What's even funnier to me, is the model previous to that called "Digital Audio" also had no sound input either!

Does this Cam have Firewire? iMovie can import the Audio & Video.

Can the Cam save in some Movie format that contains sound? How is the sound stored? Maybe as an MP3?

Hi, paulpen -

The QuickSilver models (as well as the G4 DA model) were designed for USB sound input. A device such as the Griffin iMic is commonly used for that -
Griffin - iMic Adapter

A sound in port was returned to the design starting with the G4 MDD models.

Thanks for the responses. This is what i was afraid of. The only thing i want to do with an iMic is not buy one because i already have several mics (none of them USB of course).

The audio is not "in any format", e.g. MP3 or other. It's live audio coming in, from a standard mic (line-type connector). I did figure out how to get line audio input to the QuickSilver using my DC30 card with breakout box, which seems to work fine in the QS(!!), but Mic input is still not working.

Not sure if you went to the page describing the iMic; if so, you may have missed that the iMic is an adapter, not a microphone. It allows the use of many different mic types in order to input sound via USB.

Since you already have several microphones, likely more than one will work with the iMic.

I did figure out how to get line audio input to the QuickSilver using my DC30 card with breakout box, which seems to work fine in the QS(!!), but Mic input is still not working.

Did you try using a pre-amp to get the mic's signal up to line level strength?
