I believe you misunderstand what iCloud storage is for. It is not possible to expand the storage capacity of your phone. If you want to do something with your iCloud storage YOU have to set it up.

What is taking up the majority of your space?

If you have a bunch of storage space being used by photos, you can setup iCloud Photos to use the storage space that you bought. In order to save space on your iPhone, you'll need to make sure the Optimize Storage switch is on. Note that this is a sync, not a backup, so you cannot delete the pictures from your phone. Just lower resolution ones will reside on your phone, thus saving space

You need to re-read my post. As I stated, you cannot expand the capacity of your device. After you purchased iCloud storage, you did not have more storage on your device. If you saw something that indicated you 'had more storage than you knew what to do with' you were looking at your available iCloud storage.

They are 2 different things.

Simply buying iCloud storage does not change the situation with your iPhone storage. If you want to use your iCloud storage to free up space on your phone, you first need to evaluate what's taking up all your iPhone storage. Use the link above for how to check storage on your iPhone. This will display a bar graph of what your iPhone storage space is being used for. It will list out each app and show much space it's taking up.

im confused my phone storage is so full I can’t download any apps take photos or videos or really do anything I’ve had to delete most apps and every time I call the customer service number they tell me to try again later and hangs up. But when I try to do anything on my phone a little square kept popping up asking if I wanna get more space on my phone and finally I clicked on it and it gave me like three options and I chose a 2.99 plan. And got a receipt but I still have no storage . When I first purchased it, it worked just fine for about a half hour I had more storage on my phone then I knew what to do with and then shortly after paying it went back to being full but according to my receipt and to my understanding it looks like I cloud does provide way to upgrade your storage ? And if not then please help explain what my receipt is saying...
