Thunderbolt 3 to TB2 Adapter for USB-C Hub

I have a TB1 jack. Can I plug a USB-C Hub directly into the TB3 to TB2 Adapter, which will be plugged into my TB1 jack. Will this work?

Are there USB-C hubs that also work with USB 2.0 and 3.0, without the speed of everything being reduced to 2.0 specs?

Thanks.

The adapter has a Male end that connects to a female USB-C port. The adapter's female end connects to a Male TB2 cable. That cable's other Male end connects to a TB2 port on a device such as a computer.

You are correct about device speeds when connecting devices with different ratings.

Some hubs that support TB3/USB-C ports have two. One connects to a power source for power delivery, and the other can connect to any device with similar ports. Other hubs may only have one TB3/USB-C port that may be used for power or data. Devices connected to the correct port on the hub will then run at their rated speed.

You are alright. TB1 and TB2 connecters are identical. TB3 and USB-C use the same connecters. TB3 "certified" refers to how fast the TB3 port is rated - they are rated for a speed of 40Gbps. Some devices say they have TB3 ports but they are really USB-C ports as far as their speed is concerned - that may be 10Gbps or 5Gbps. USB-C ports usually will be rated similarly. The TB2 to TB3 adapter is what you need to connect to an old TB2 device. I doubt it is rated for 40Gbps since TB2 cannot go that fast.

So I just need a TB3 to TB2 adapter and a USB-C Hub? No additional cable to connect the two?

As for the USB Hubs, I thought that the lowest rated device sets the speed, e.g. if you add a 2.0 device to a hub with, let's say, all C devices, the C's will only run at 2.0 speed.

Do I have that right?

I've been looking around and noticed that some of the more expensive hubs have dedicated 2.0, 3.0 and C ports...so the lower rated won't slow down the higher.

Thanks.

Nah. 2 TB1, 2 USB 3.

So TB3 n USB-C are interchangeable, as well as TB1 n TB2? Maybe I can find a cheap used TB1.

And I can just throw a cheap little M to F USB-C cap on the adapter, to use one of the $20 USB-C Hubs that just have the M input.

I have two SSD drives and I don't think they're running at full speed connected to the 3.0 port.

TB1 and TB2 are the same ports and cables. TB3 and USB-C use the same ports but TB3 supports higher speeds than USB-C ports. For your plans stick to the USB-C products. You don't need to spend extra for TB3 certified.

If you mean SATA SSD (2.5'' format), then USB-C is fine. They don't go any faster than around 500MBs r/w for the top models. There are also NVMe SATA SSDs that may hit around 1GBs r/w running in USB-C 10Gbps rated ports.
