I'm having trouble updating my computer

My current macOS version is 10.13.6 High Sierra. What do I need to do to update to Catalina?

Check to see if your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements for Catalina:

FYI, Catalina no longer supports 32 bit apps so make sure you either upgrade those third party apps (if any) before upgrading to Catalina or uninstall the third party 32 bits apps (if any) by following the developer's instructions.

Then make sure you have a good backup just in case something goes wrong.
