Keynote cannot print in portrait

I am trying to use Keynote in an application which requires portrait orientation. There is a description of how to do this in this blog which says to use the Custom Paper size option. I did this, and it does indeed format it as portrait on the screen. However, it does not rotate it to fit on the printer. It comes out a tall, narrow portrait-format image on landscape paper. All it really needs to do is rotate it.

Set the slide size with portrait dimensions (with the larger number in the height box) in:

Inspector > Document > in the Slide Size dropdown, select; Custom Slide Size then enter the required pixel dimensions

In the print driver, select Portrait orientation:
