trying to download my contacts from my iPhone 7 to my MacBook Air using the iCloud

I'm having trouble getting my updated contacts on my phone over to my Macbook air. I'm signed into the iCloud, I have contacts turned on thru y phone settings but not sure how to export them.

Can someone help me please. Thank you, Kevin

There's no need to export them providing you are also using iCloud on the MacBook Air (System Preferences > Apple ID > is Contacts turned on).

This is my first time using the iCloud service and perhaps I'm not familiar. The contacts in my MacBook contact list is an old contact list (original list before I got this phone). My new contacts since then don't show up and my concern is when I upgrade to an iPhone 11 I will only have my old contacts to update and not my most recents ones (basically the last 3 years of contacts). Will my new phone, once logged into my iCloud account show my current phone contacts or the ones showing on my MacBook. Confusing I know, but this has been a problem over the past 2 phones I have upgraded with, this is my first time using the iCloud for the transfer. I was able to successfully download all my photos fro my phone to my Mac using iCloud, just wondering why my contacts don't show updated in my contact app. Thank you for your help on this! Kevin
