Apple IMAC A1311 OS X installation issues

We are a Veterans Non-Profit that donates technology to Veterans for School, Job Training and Small Business. Recently a college donated some Imac's that have El Capitan and were used on the school network. The school never did wipe the old OS and we are trying to reload El Capitan or an updated OS but all the apple steps we've tried aren't work. We did the erase the HD and tried to reinstall from the Apple site, no luck. Tried a El Capitan usb and said not verified. I would pay to have either a "fix" or a usb drive that has maybe High Sierra for installing from a boot up? I know pc and know very little about apple. I'm trying to get 30 of these into the hands of Veterans that need them. Help!!

Windows, Windows 10

Hey heroes2278,

We understand you're having issues with reinstalling macOS. These Macs would have come with Mac OS X 10.6.6 Snow Leopard.

At this point, if you're unable to use the built-in recovery, or it was deleted, we'd suggest ensuring you've exhausted all of the options available to reinstall macOS here:

How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

If you continue to have issues afterward, we'd suggest checking with an Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area to see if Snow Leopard reinstall DVDs are available. Apple no longer supplies these discs, however you may find them available through a third-party.

Take care!
