iPad A1474 not charging

iPad model A1474 is not charging. Cables and charging block have been verified, have verified that the charging connection is clean. Applying some pressure (not consistently in any particular direction) will at times bring up the charging icon, the battery will show with a red bar at the bottom, will flash 3 times, then nothing. Currently not enough power to boot up. I did the 'warming/heating' procedure which did result in a start-up that showed 9% battery but displayed 'not charging' message.

Is it possible that it is just the battery that is so far gone? I would have expected that as long being plugged in, power would be available to boot up and operate the iPAD.

Is there a known issue with failure of the plug-in component?

Appreciate direction on solving...

Thanks for your reply Chuck

I'm looking into the problem(s) of this iPad on behalf of my sister-in-law, I'm not a regular Apple user. So here is a question:

Is there a difference between an Apple 'passcode' and a 'password'? She gave me her password, but when I input the password it's looking for a passcode. Her note includes another 'password' as well that I thought was possibly the passcode?

Does the forced re-boot require being signed in prior to forcing the re-boot? I held the start button and the home button, got the Apple icon. After possibly 45-60 seconds was asked for the passcode.

Problem is complicated by the fact that the battery is so run down that I have to apply heat to the iPad to generate enough voltage to turn anything on, and entering an incorrect password/passcode results in progressively longer wait times before I can make another attempt, which results in cooling down too much, need to re-heat.....

Get only 7% power by applying heat.

My impression is that the problem may be with the charging port. I've done quite a bit with pc based basic repairs, but looking at what is required to change an iPad charging port...don't want to go there.

Howdy 2garyr,

We see you're having an issue charging your iPad, and we're happy to take a closer look at it with you.

If you've tested the cable and power charger as known good, then there is possibly a hardware issue with the iPad. First, we would recommend forcing it to restart, the steps are outlined under the "If your iPad charges slowly or won’t charge" section of this article: If your iPad won't charge. Then let the iPad charge for 30 minutes.

If it still won't charge, we'd recommend having the device inspected. You can look at options regarding inspection with Apple Support: Get Support

Cheers!

Thanks for the additional info 2garyr,

If you're needing to apply heat to the iPad, or manipulate the cable in any way to get it to charge, this is a hardware related issue, not software. Moreover, the charging issues are likely to continue until the underlying hardware issue is resolved.

While we'd be unable to speculate as to what is causing the problem, the specialists at Apple Support can help take a look at service options with you: Get Support.

Take care.
