I cannot get pencil to pair either... Have you found a resolution?
Which iPad and which pencil?
Has the pencil been sat around for not a while not being used?
If its an iPad Air 3rd gen this may resolve the issue
There is a known issue when connecting an Ipad Air 3rd Generation and 1st Generation Pencil. The way to resolve the issue is to connect and disconnect power to the iPad then connect the pencil via the lightning port and this should start the pairing request. I have confirmed it worked for me.
