Post to photo album without importing

I have a movie on the computer I want to post it to the shared album. I do not want to copy it into the same computer it's already on so Photos can upload it to the shared album. How do I tell photos to just upload it from where it's at instead of copying over again?

thanks

Shared albums are creating a new copy of the shared item. Videos are not shared in the original quality. (How to share albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac - Apple Support)

Videos can be up to fifteen minutes in length and are delivered at up to 720p resolution.

You have to import the video to Photos to share it, but once the video has been shared, you can delete it again from your Photos Library. The downsized version of the video will stay in the Shared album. This is different from the standard albums in Photos.

There is a way to do this, but you really have to ask yourself if you're being wise doing it.

Photos Menu -> Preferences -> General. (Uncheck the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

There is a significant downside to this and that is that you will now have a mixed library, and this complexity is the mother of dataloss.

The wiser move is to copy the video into the library and delete it from wherever it lives currently.
