Redeemed iTunes Card

I got a $25 iTunes gift card. On September 26, 2019, signed to my account, redeemed the card, and did a $10 dollar purchase, the card was $25 dollars. I should have a remaining $15 dollar balance. I didn't logged again to my account until today, August 15, 2020. To my surprise, my balance is now $0. I thought this never expired. The only monthly subscrition that I have on this account is Netflix. Did iTunes used my balance to pay for that subscription instead of making the charge to my registered credit card? Or do iTunes cards have expiration date once redeemed?

Yes, it did. The card's balance will be used first when allowed.

Well, that is freaking awesome!!! So, if someone gets an Apple gift card, is better not to use it until you have a list of what you wish to get, otherwise, the system will just drain your money if you redeem the card and leave it there. What's also absurd is, if there is a card in the account, why would the system uses the balance on a gift card instead of using the card to make the monthly payment of a service as it has been doing it for the last three years....this is bull!
