How do I pair my watch?

This is my first Apple Watch and I can’t get it to pair. I have selected the language and country and when I get the screen with the “moving circle” image it doesn’t pair. When I try manually pairing it won’t give me a 6 digit number to enter. My WiFi is on, airplane mode off, still nothing. I’ve shut down and restarted both devices, still nothing. I’ve tried all of the different troubleshooting tutorials I’ve found online but still can’t get anything to work. Please help!
