I am trying to connect a FTDI USB/Serial cable to my Macbook Air (Catalina OSX) and I understand that there have been some problems with the new Apple driver. How do I get this working?

I have had no issue with USB-COMM422-PLUS1, USB-COM485-PLUS1, and
TTL-232R (both 5 and 3.3 volt). They were plug and play with no
additional drivers needed. They show up in /dev as tty.usbserial-xxxxxxx,
where the X's are a device identifier.
The only time FTDI drivers are needed if you wanted to access the devices
directly and not a USB CDC device.
It is possible that you have a borked device. Just because
it is new does not mean it is not faulty.
I tested all the devices mentioned before posting
on an iMac running 10.15.6 with latest supplemental
update and have never installed any FTDI drivers.
BTW, if you have installed any drivers, go to FTDI and
find out how to remove them and start over.
What does the cable manufacturer say? It is they who provide drivers for their product. If their driver is 32 bit it will not work with 64 bit Catalina.
Apple no longer uses the manufacturer's driver
The plug I have is US232R-100-BULK. RS stock code 687-7806.
Is it possible that this plug is not compatible with a Mac?
