SOS Hacker GOTOASSIST

Hi!, my boyfriend and I has been desperate to recover his email access, and called a supposed number of assistance. The guy in the phone took control of the Mac with "Go to assist" program, and we just found out it was a fraud when he asked us a very high payment with Bitcoins... So we deactivated Go to Assist but I'm sure they have been installing something else... How can we protect the computer now? Thanks a lot.

Hello adaQUEEN,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community! We understand your boyfriends computer was possibly compromised by hackers. We're happy to assist! First, we'd recommend removing any app or program they had installed including "Go to Assist". We'd also have you make sure no other new or suspicious programs are on your Mac, and if they are follow the steps below to remove them:

How to delete apps on your Mac

We'd also have you make sure there are no unwanted items starting up with your Mac. You can check that by following below:

Open items automatically when you log in on Mac

Lastly, we'd recommend making sure your Mac is up to date on software:

If you are experiencing any problems after following the above steps let us know!

Thanks.
