Iphone tracker

Apple has secretly downloaded a covid 19 tracker to my iPhone without my permission. It has not been activated and I can't wait for them to try that. Has anyone else experienced this?

iPhone X, iOS 13

Don't get mislead by what others say. Read this apple article which clearly says "support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities"

If you have not installed any app, no one can trace it.

iOS 13.5

iOS 13.5 speeds up access to the passcode field on devices with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask and introduces the Exposure Notification API to support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities. This update also introduces an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles on Group FaceTime calls and includes bug fixes and other improvements.

wow, the more you post the more obvious that it becomes that you haven't done a lick of research on any of this. Must just be following social media and conspiracy theories?

Lawyers don't write APIs, software engineers do.. Unless that lawyer was a programmer on the side, he wouldn't know what he was looking at. Without API's your phone literally wouldn't function.

As other's have stated, you are not talking to Apple, you are in a public forum of other iPhone users that are donating their time trying to help other iPhone users with technical issues.

You are pretty far off base accusing Apple of being a 'socially irresponsible' company. They are among the ONLY tech giants that make it a point to give you privacy control. Again, just more proof that you haven't done any real research.

If it were illegal Apple wouldn't be doing it..

YOU are the one completely missing the point. You are angry about nothing. Apple did not install an app that tracks you for Covid. If you're worried about someone 'hacking' your device and turning it on.. well you literally can't turn it on unless you have an app that uses it. Which if you live in the US, my understanding is that there is only 1 app from the state of Virginia that is using this API. Do you jailbreak your iPhone? If not, the odds of an iPhone being hacked are slim to none. You probably have better odds at winning the lottery. Aside from that, even if your conspiracy mindset was correct and they were somehow tracking you.. How is your phone going to know that you got Covid? So then the doctors offices and testing centers are all hacked as well and some government agency is putting it all together and tracking you?? If all of that is really happening, you think Apple is in control of the situation? And if so, you know what.. good for them. If they were to go to such lengths to help contain the spread, I value my privacy very much.. but I wouldn't even be mad!

don't take my/our word for it..

Forbes.. the are kind of anti Apple at times, maybe you'll believe them?

I don't know why I'm wasting my breath, I'm guessing that there is nothing I can say that'll convince you. But I guess I'm trying to be optimistic

You have no right to do this and your actions are socially irresponsible and probably illegal, so please do not try to dismiss your actions as if there is nothing wrong with it.

Chris0107 did nothing but try to explain things to you.

When you updated your iOS to 13.5, you agreed to the installation of the API.

Apple has no business dictating what software is on the users device and that is the action you are taking. By integrating software that I do not want into your operating system

Yeah they do for the underlying iOS. You agreed to this as well.

I will no longer buy your products.

ok.

One should always use and purchase the products that serve your needs best. By the way, Android includes the same API in their OS now. Best of luck.

“As long as you continue to attempt to infringe upon my rights as a user, I will no longer buy your products.”

Well, that is certainly your right as a consumer, but do understand, if you use a cell phone, any cell phone it has the capability of being tracked. You are tracked on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and any other web site you use. You are tracked when you use a Visa card, a loyalty shopping card, and on and on.

As to the COVID capability on all smart phones, please do educate yourself on its use, its capabilities, and its restrictions.

When you buy any product with massive amounts of software data (pretty much ANY device now), you are agreeing to allow the parent company to run that device (in crude terms) the way it was intended to... there are "native" apps that must be allowed to run on a certain device to ensure its productivity.

"Rights" do not exist when it comes to consumer purchases, that adhere to the current laws in effect. The US Constitution has not been amended enough or specified clearly enough to spell out what "rights" the consumer has when it comes to specific devices.

There is a reasonable right to privacy, but in the 21st Century, privacy is now more related to human to human contact than information or data.

You have missed the point! Don't try to tell me that there's nothing wrong and that I should not listen to anybody except you!!! You should only be downloading software that is required for the functioning of your device. You should not be adding tracking software or any other software that can be used to invade personal privacy. How can you guarantee that someone cannot use the internet to hack the device and activate the feature.? You can't! You have no right to do this and your actions are socially irresponsible and probably illegal, so please do not try to dismiss your actions as if there is nothing wrong with it. Apple has no business dictating what software is on the users device and that is the action you are taking. By integrating software that I do not want into your operating system and claiming that it is not harmful, Apple is violating my right to choose which apps I elect to use. As long as you continue to attempt to infringe upon my rights as a user, I will no longer buy your products.
