Share a movie that will play on Kodak M820 EasyShare Picture Frame

I've been looking for a way to export a movie that will play on this picture frame, and although the box says it will play MOV, AVI, MPG and a few other formats, in the fine print under troubleshooting it says it might not actually play these formats if they didn't come from a KODAK camera. I've researched all afternoon and found no useful information since my quicktime pro version doesn't have the settings mentioned in other threads all over the web.

I spent way too much on this if it doesn't play movies I can export from imovie 09, or another converter. Any suggestions by the amazing pros? 😉 I'm frustrated beyond measure...

Try this:
Share to iTunes, or SHARE to Movie in Medium size.

That should give you a m4v file, which might work. That is an h.264 file which is a subset of mpeg4.

If that does not work, make a copy of the m4v file, and on the copy, change the extension to mp4.

If that does not work, try SHARE/EXPORT to QUICKTIME with codec as h.264 and dimensions as 720x480. Try bit rate as 5 Mbps, but you may be able to adjust this downward to save space.
That will make a MOV file in the h.264 codec in dimensions that will fit your frame.

Hi Appleman, I tried your suggestions exactly; however, both approaches ended up with a "movie format not supported message." Thanks for trying. I will await other suggestions. 🙂

I'm making progress. I looked up Kodak Easyshare camera specs for their movies, and made them match. I now have stripes running across the screen, big fat flashing ones, and that is a huge improvement over "file format not supported."

I did Share > Export using Quicktime > Settings : Mpeg-4, 13 fps, limit to 5000 kpbs, no sound, quality Medium, Dimensions 640x480.

Gives a .mov file. 🙂

Maybe this gives y'all something to work with.

Ok. Here is something interesting. I've continued tinkering, and have a movie that now plays with great green coloring on the screen, in blocks across the bottom, the top is not great, but one can tell what it is. It reminds me of an old tape playing when the heads aren't aligned properly.

I exported the same as above, but set the bit rate to automatic, and 24 or 30 fps gives the best, with dimensions set super low at 320x240. Slower frame rates are terrible, back to the green stripes.

Any other suggestions?

I have tinkered around for a few more days, and have not discovered any settings in iMovie 09 that work with the picture frame. My Sony pocket camera video files export and play fine. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I hate to resort to putting the Sony on a tripod in front of my playing computer screen! 🙂

Any suggestions would be so appreciated!
