Carplay freezes when I get a text while on the phone

I recently had a Sony XAV-AX1000 with Carplay installed in my vehicle. It works great, except when receiving a text message while talking on the phone, which causes the system to freeze up. I don't even have to click on the messenger app - as soon as the text notification appears, the system freezes. But only if I'm on a call, otherwise the messaging works fine. They only way to fix it is to pull over and restart the car.

This has happened three times in the month that I've been using it. I've searched through several forums but haven't come across anyone else who has had this particular problem.

Just to confirm, when this issue occurs, it is the Sony stereo device that freezes up, and not your iPhone, is that correct?

As a general first step, we would want to ensure that the connected iOS device you are using with CarPlay is on the most recent software version. Take a look at how to update your iOS device:

If it is just the Sony stereo device that freezes when this happens, we would want to look to ensure that the device has the most recent version of its Firmware installed. You can find this, as well as more information about your Sony stereo and how to contact the device manufacturer here:
