Doing a Time Machine backup on MacBook Pro. I have been stuck in the encrypting stage for over 24 hours and am still at 32%. I feel like it is stuck. How to I get out of this loop? How can I clean up behind this attempt at backing up my system etc.

Starting encryption on a disk that is full of data can take some time. Patience is a virtue.
You can always start over, encrypt first then run the backup process a new.
