Apple Watch says it has 4.2gb

My Apple Watch series 3 gps says its capacity is 4.2gb in the about section when should be 8gb. I understand the actual storage won’t be exactly 8 and software accounts for some but half seems like a lot.

Having the same issue and spent an hour in chat support only to have them send me a link to send it in that didn't work so starting a chat with another. My watch says it has 4.3 GB of storage and this second chat person is not understanding me either. Cutting the storage in half is a pretty convenient way for me to get sick of my watch and want a new one I guess.

Alright, so we know so far that the "capacity" info discounts the OS... so the "available" info should inform you how much is left from what you've consumed out of these 4.2GB capacity... and here's the intriguing thing: it says I have 3.2GB left, which means around 1GB usage... goddamn it, I dont´t have anything but the native apps... no music, no photos... in the usage menu it says: 9.3MB for mail, 9MB for photos (I have none), 2.6MB for calendar, 2.2MB for contacts and 0,6KB for wallet... nothing else. Where is the 1GB it says I'm using?!

I just factory reset and I'm still using storage somehow lol, didn't choose to set up anything and I've still used a little over a GB. I just can't believe they sell this watch new when you literally have to erase it every single time to install an update, that's insane. I didn't buy it from Apple but I got a warranty when I did, hoping I can return the POS.

I totally agree!

but you have to delete the Beta IOS (listed in the usage I think) to make room for future updates. Apple can guide you if you do a search on the subject.

At the Apple Store recently I was told that this Beta version is for professionals only, so how come it got into our watches???

I told them it obviously came with a suggested update otherwise I wouldn’t have had it. And I’m not the only one....

whichever way I look at it, Apple has made some mistake along the lines.

I talked to several levels of Apple Support from chat to phone. I got a helpful support person who confirmed they understood the issue I was describing and that many others had this issue. She said

"The engineers have stated that this is expected behavior and I am completely understanding the concept of the capacity and storage. As of now, the engineers are stating it is expected behavior. Please feel free to leave apple some feedback on this issue at apple.com/feedback. We do really them and take our customers opinions seriously. "

I left some feedback about how confusing this is and asking for a change to be the same as other Apple products. Please do the same.
