How can I delete an old or wrong email address?

Assuming you're using Apple Mail, with the 'wrong' email address in the To: line of a new email, click the little downward caret ˇ on the right edge of the address and select Remove from Previous Recipients List.

My problem is, when I made a mistake in an email address when I send it for the first time, it shows up in the address line forever, even when I correct it. And it happened that I use the wrong email address when I am n a hurry and not check thoroughly enough if I choose the correct one
