Iphone storage information displayed is weird/wrong?

Ive been trying to manage my storage and noticed that the numbers dont add up. Just the two largest apps show that i used about 260 gb when the top info says i only used 221 gbs. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to get more accurate numbers w/o have to restore and redownload “260 gb” worth of data?

Hi Terry_1100,

We understand the storage usage isn't accurately showing on your device. We're happy to help.

We'd first recommend updating the software on the device to the current version, 13.6.1. This version helps to correct some inaccurate storage calculations seen in earlier iOS 13 versions:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you don't have enough space to install the current software update, you'll need to backup, erase, and restore the device to get it updated. These resources will help you:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

We hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi Terry_1100,

Thanks for the follow up. We're happy to assist with additional steps.

If you've followed through all of those steps and are still having the issue, your backup may have brought the problem back. Next you'll want to set the device up as new to test if that resolves it.

Again you're going to begin by backing up your device: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then restore it: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

This time after you restore the software on it, go through the setup menu and choose the option to set it up as a new device. Do not restore your backup like last time. When you finish getting through the setup menu and are back to the home screen check Settings > General > iPhone Storage, to see if it shows any other categories in the bar or if it still only shows the App category.

If it is showing all of the categories in the bar when set up as new, that will indicate the problem is from your backup, and that would be why the previous steps didn't appear to resolve it.

Take care!
