Will Apple never fix the memory problems with Netflix and Facebook?

I see not only me, but many people are having the same issue when watching Netflix:

"This webpage is using significant energy. Closing it may improve the responsiveness of your Mac."

How in the heaven? I have 16GB DDR4 RAM in a quad core i7 and while I am using Netflix nothing else is open.

As for Facebook, it simply crashes from time to time, it prevents me to open the emojis list, it froze when loading older posts... I even installed Chrome, because I thought it could be Safari, but no! The issue happens in both browsers.

I don't like this kind of limitation. We buy Mac thinking it is great and powerful and such simple tasks becomes a burden? I really regret buying it... I wish it would still have time to return it.

If anyone has any tips, I am glad to receive, because I followed many tips on existent posts but nothing helped. It becomes clear that this is an OS issue and that Apple SHOULD PAY ATTENTION.

Without the full disk access for Etrecheck the only issue I see is this:

Time since boot: About 62 days

One should reboot much more frequently, at least 2-3 times a week. I shut down each night because having an SSD as the boot drive booting up only takes about 25 seconds. This cleans out temporary cache and swap files for both the system and other apps.

You have about 1.74 G of swap memory and that could be part of the problem with the two sites. With 16 GB of RAM you should be able to get by without any memory swap. I know I do. Cleaning out the cache files by rebooting will help the memory issue.

You will need to give Etrecheck full disk access for it to see what kexts are loaded, and other system extensions.

I noticed you have not rebooted for 62 days. Sometimes programs like Chrome and Netflix and Facebook take more and more memory which can slow down a computer. Restarting once in a while can clear this out and speed things up.

Booting into safe mode may also clear some things that could be slowing down your computer.

Netflix and Facebook grab a lot of computer resources, especially for video. But I run both of these on a 2008 iMac with 4 GB memory! No freezing!

Also, your Catalina is not updated to the latest version, which may help. Make a backup before updating.

Well maybe that is because of a poorly coded page. Facebook can try to run several videos at the same time; the Facebook messenger pages in particular can have issues.

I don’t have Netflix so I can’t comment on that.

The thing is, if other pages load and work fine, and these two fail, and in different browsers, this suggests the pages may be the issue.

You should also try Firefox. It is a much leaner than Chrome and does not grab your data the way Chrome does...

if it's anymore than just the operating system informing the user if their feel their macbooks battery life is found wanting then maybe you should inform them of such using their feedback channel

It may well be a poorly coded page, but that doesn't happen on iOS or Microsoft Windows. And I tell you Windows IS poorly coded. I am talking about simple tasks, such as scrolling a wall, or select an emoji for a message, that shouldn't be a pain.

I did not quit using Windows because of small issues like that.

I will try and download Firefox. Lets see if it will behave better. But VERY SAD I cannot use Safari for that.

Thanks for your response.

Well, others may have the same issue. I already complained about the issue, of course, but they said I should restart and blablabla.. Few weeks ago, Netxflix was simply crashing from time to time, so I had to go back to the Home page and select the seires again.

And I posted here because I think it is important to reach out to others. And I am not complaining about that only. I am surprised that apart from that, not even Facebook runs smoothly.

Unfortunately I need Facebook for my side job. So I need it to work smoothly.

As for Netflix, if it is a friendly warning I should acknowledge and close and done. But it keeps popping up each 5 minutes.

Not mentioning when it simply frozes the image and display a specific ERROR code, then I need to return to Home page and select series all over again. It doesnt make how big the issue is, if it is bothering me, I have the right to complaint and also share with other who may feel its their device only.
