Is This Fake?

I got this email yesterday around 1:00 pm that says the following:

"Case ID [0-6723824]

Hello,

Due to a problem with the payment method you provided, we couldn't charge your account for your case (#C02-9410698-37689194).

If you don't update your information in 24 hours, your Apple ID will be permanently locked. To unlock your Apple ID, please visit this link to log in to your Apple ID and update your billing information.

It even includes the Apple logo and a copyright on the bottom.

It hasn't been exactly 24 hours yet so I am thinking I still have time. I do not understand why I would have gotten this email as I had not purchased or attempted to purchase anything from Apple. I don't want to be locked out of my Apple ID. Is this a fake email?

  • Apple would not warn of a pending account issue, giving you a deadline to fix the issue.
  • Apple does not include document, or PDF files to download.
  • Apple would not refer to you as Dear Customer, Dear Client, or anything other than the name on file for your account.
  • Apple would not have such horrible spelling or grammar.
  • Apple would not send a message to “Undisclosed Recipients”.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message, as an attachment to Apple.

If you provided your Apple ID and password at the bogus site, change your password immediately.
