Lexmark scanner suddenly won't work under Catalina

I have a Lexmark CX410de multifunction printer. I attempted to scan a document but find the scanner function is no longer operating. I deleted the printer then added it back under Preferences. The printer no longer has a Scan tab on the icon. I then hard wired the printer to the MacMini and was able to install the printer with the scan function tab. But now I find if the printer is not cabled to the Mini I cannot scan. The print function works wirelessly but not so for the scanner.

Any ideas? I think I've exhausted every idea including downloading and installing new Lexmark drivers and to be honest I don't know if the printer is using the new dirvers when I add a new printer

Open Image Capture in your Applications folder and see if it recognizes the Scanner on your all-in-one. If it does, then I've found Image Capture to be as good if not better than most manufacture's scan-ware.

Den.Thed I took your advice to update the firmware and this did solve some of the issue in that the scanner tab is now present and on one of the systems (the MacMini) will now scan from the scanner function without having to use Image Capture. And scanning can be done from Image Capture as well. From another desktop iMac there is a strange new incident. I have added the multifunction printer and the print function works well. But when I open the scan tab and double click on the Scan function I get an error message 9945 -- (words to the effect that) there is scanner software available for this device. Do you want to install the software? when you click on install, the progress bar goes about half way then I get another error message "Install failed." This iMac's OS is Mojave while the MacMini is Catalina. I followed what information I could find on the error message 9945 but this didn't take me too far. Apparently there is some "addition" to Image Capture that may have come with Catalina but I can't figure out what's needed to make Image Capture work. Just a little note - I have BigSur beta on a laptop and after the firmware update the new drivers install without issue and all the functions work.

Any further suggestions to solve this crazy issue?
