Do you need to know how to create Groups in Contacts? First back-up your device! How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

One way of creating iPhone groups is to use iCloud

  1. On your iPhone, go to “Apple ID > iCloud” (or for older iOS, just tap “iCloud” from the main Settings menu) and enable the “Contacts” slider.
  2. Go to a computer and open the iCloud website. Sign in to your iCloud account and click “Contacts”.
  3. At the bottom-left, click the + icon and select “New Group”. Name it accordingly, click “All Contacts”, and drag the contacts you want into the group chat.

And another is to use the Contacts App on your Mac Computer, after completing step 1 above
