Mac mini (Mid 2010) with OS X El Capitan

Mac mini (Mid 2010) with OS X El Capitan 10.11.16

Everything seems to be is working fine. Is it a good idea to move on to a newer operating system, or leave good enough alone.

I see on Wikipedia there are newer systems: Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina. Is it just a matter of going to the app store and hitting a download button? My wife used to take care of this, but she died. Thanks in advance. Andy

2010 MacMini (yes, Apple considers it as absolete hardware) can run 10.13 - High Sierra.

Do not invest much money on this -- but 8G memory might be a good idea to run High Sierra.

OWC and Crucial both have very good reputation in terms of Mac support.

First -- make a good backup via TimeMachine (a must) and extra backup for important files (optional)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208969

Go to "4" and you will see "Get MacOS High Sierra" - by clicking it to download the MacOS.

You will be prompted to install High Sierra as soon as download is completed.

Sorry about your loss -- my great condolence..
