Cursor does not move between monitors

I have a MacBook Pro running the latest version of Catalina. I have a large LG monitor as my main monitor and use the MacBook Pro as a secondary monitor. On a regular basis, I cannot move the cursor from the external monitor to the laptop. I can get it to start working again be selecting the display setting in preferences. Sometimes that is all I have to do. Other times I need to go into Arrangement and move the main monitor from the external monitor to the laptop and back. This issue has been going on for a long time.

Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

When's the last time you reset your SMC and NVRAM?

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Display Arrangement) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM.

Your ports may not be being read promptly, so resetting these, all of the ports would be configured to how they should be. If one attempt does not work, it might take three times - this can be time consuming. So, make sure you have time to do this.
