Can't verify my email account using Mail and sbcglobal.net account

I had to change my password on att (thanks a million). I can access my email via yahoo and via my iPhone after changing my password but cant via Apple Mail.

I've changed my password in Apple Mail. Doesn't verify. See attached. I've deleted the account and am trying to add it. No go. What is going on?

FIXED IT!

All the instructions say to Add Account->Other Account. That didnt work.

I added a yahoo.com account

That worked just fine. I appreciate the time you took to help me resolve this even though it might have been user error!

Im back in business!

I was having this problem trying to add a mail (not gmail) account just for Notes. In my ~/Library/Keychains folder, I found a subfolder with a long hexadecimal and hyphens name. I deleted that subfolder, logged out, and logged back in. I was then able to add the account, without having lost any passwords from my keychains.

We have old passwords stuck in Keychain Access, see if you can find them.

Quit mail.

Finder>Go>Go to Folder, copy & Paste:

 ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail

Highlight all the contents.

Then right-click and choose "New Folder with Selection”. Do not move the new folder from this current location.

You can close the Finder window.

The next step will be to restart the Mac and test

Perhaps if you gave us more feedback as to the steps & where or whence it failed.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

Enter the part after the @sign in the search bar.

You may have duplicate or more entries in Keychain Access.

If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but likely old passwords interfering.

There''ll be at least 2 entries, maybe more.

The trouble is that Mac Mail almost always chooses the old Passwords if you don't change or get rid of the old ones.

Restart to clear some caches.

The big bugaboo with Mail is finding the keychain for any auto setup Mail accounts, if IMAP it usually involves deleting the account & setting it up again to fix it.

Yeah, the hidden Keychains PWDs for auto setup Mail accounts is a killer problem, might try this...

This may still work...

Go through setting everything up to a Fake Server, none of the Apple choices, replace the part after the @ sign with like @fakeserver.net when setting up this fake account, use all the right ports authentication, & passwords, wait for mail to say it failed do you want to save this account anyway, say yes, then you can go back in & edit the 2 servers to yahoo.com or whatever instead of @fakeserver.net
