Can you use use an old 2008 iMac as a 2nd display

Hi,

My main iMac is a late 2015 27inch Retina 5 K running Catalina 10.15.6. I have got a really old 2008 iMac runnig 10.11.6 El Captain. Which I want to use as a 2nd display. I have a Thunderbolt fire wire adapter coming out of the 2015 iMac running a firewire cable into the 2008 iMac. When I press control F2 on the 2008 keyboard (which I believe you are supposed to do) nothing happens. Help!

Yes, assuming your 2008 iMac is running at least 10.11 el Capitan.

See here: https://astropad.com/getting-started-luna-display/

Note, it won;t let you use Target Display Mode but will let you jse Luna's own software and mechanism to extend your screen.

Do note, that the 2008 iMac will not support the 5K resolution of the new iMac so you will need o reduce the shared resolution to something the old iMac can support. Which means you won;t be using the 5K resolution your new iMac is capable of.
