TextEdit could this years ago; sorry, in my profile stands an old OS , from what I switched to Catalina and I want to go back, BBEdit 11 does not work in catalina. Thought as I said I want to switch back (costs storage for backups).
BBEdit 13 works in Catalina. Update for free, and when the free mode trial runs out, it remains free to use with some disabled features. Far better than TextEdit for code and HTML.

TextEdit comes to mind.
The built in TextEdit app does that just fine...
