iMovie not working after August 25, 2020 update

I just updated imovie (app store notified me) and now imovie is not working. I open it and I don't see my projects AND for media it just says it's loading. I also tried testing to see if I could create a new movie and it freezes up/the ball just spins. Anyone else? What can I do? Already tried restarting my computer twice. Thanks!

Mac mini 2018 or later

Hi, Mandy,

Try the below diagnostic procedures and see if that solves it.

Deleting Preferences

Try opening iMovie while holding down theOption and Command keys and

selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a

new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects.

Safe Mode

You could also try booting up in Safe Mode (see Finder menu for

instructions) and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and reboot in

normal mode. Then see if that stops the crashing.

 Resetting the

System Management Controller

 Try resetting the System Management

Controller:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Resetting the NVRAM or PRAM

Try resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, although this issue would be fairly rare:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Redownload iMovie

All else failing, you can try redownloading iMovie. To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your

iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the

trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by

clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases

displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not

successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it

there) and return it to the Applications folder.

Another poster on this forum said that he talked to Apple Support and that Support acknowledged that there are glitches with the iMovie 10.1.15 update that they hope to have fixed by the middle of next week.

The transitions issue has been solved for others on this forum by resetting the System Management Controller as mentioned in my earlier post in this thread. If the SMC reset doesn't work, try resetting the NVRAM or PRAM. These procedures are very easy to do, basically restarting the Mac while holding down certain keys. It might cure some of the other glitches as well.
