Best Security Software for older Macs no longer supported by Apple - iMacs, MacBooks
Hi All
So here we are. My iMac mid 2011 that I still use with both Safari, Google Chrome and other software was no longer supported from Oct 2019. Its now August 2020 and I am thinking of what is the best software to compliment my ageing iMac.
So why not upgrade to High Sierra? Simple really Adobe CS3 software that I use a lot and can't upgrade to High Sierra as it won't work. Also come Oct 2020 and High Sierra is not supported either.
So does that mean that my iMac is now rubbish? Throw it out, buy a new iMac at £1000+?
For updates from Apple then yes it is obsolete, however how many people out there still use their old iMacs for everyday stuff? My mate has an old El Capitan iMac that he only uses for Music and I know my iMac will follow suit soon.
So my question: ---
I have Googled the best software and Bitdefender, Norton 360, Intego X9 and others all give some sort of Malware, banking protection and an extra layer of protection that some upto date Mac owners will say you don't really need.
So which is the best for the Mac? Having looked at some they all have limited functions for the Mac compared to the Windows version.
Norton:- Will only support the current and last two versions of Mac OS - so thats no good from the start.
BitDefender: - Supports from OSx 10.10 (Yosemite ) so seems good value but functions are cut down for Mac owners.
Intego x9:- Mac only, expensive but seems one of the best options?
Just need some advice of what others have bought? Any Safari extensions to make Banking better and less of a worry with no Apple updates since Oct 2019? Surely this software will increase the security on the ageing Safari 12.1.2 Browser?
I can use Google Chrome which is updated and will be for at least a couple of years, just wanted to buy an extra layer of security.
Thank you in advance of the replies ....
