Airplay of purchased, downloaded itunes movies does not work without a network connection

Hi everybody. I'm using a 6th generation iPad (MR7J2FD/A) and a Apple TV 4K (A1842), both with the latest iOS. The iPad is connected directly to the Apple TV, without using a local network. Screen mirroring works just fine. However, if I try to airplay purchased and downloaded iTunes movies, I get this message:"This video is in a format that can't be streamed to this TV." Any ideas how to fix this? Thank you.

AirPlay has a setting to stream the same title from the cloud, instead of the file on the AirPlay source device, for a better quality version, or a version compatible with the TV according to Apple TV settings. You may want to try and turn that off in offline situations.

No. That is not the problem at all. I'm having trouble airplaying purchased and downloaded itunes movies from my iPad to my AppleTv, while the two devices are directly connected, without using a common wireless network or any of the devices beeing connected to the internet. I can mirror the iPad onto the AppleTV without a problem, so I do have a connection. But when I use the TV App to play a movie I get the message "This video is in a format that can't be streamed to this TV." I want to use my iPad to stream itunes movies to the AppleTv without an internet connection. Is that possible at all? Thank you.

Purchased content will still require an internet connection as it needs to ping a server for authentication.
