Camera Not Connecting

I have created a 15 minute movie in iMovie as well as in iDVD. Now, in iMovie, I wish to transfer it back to my Canon DV Movie Camera so I go to Share and select Video Camera and get the following message:

Your FireWire camera is not powered on or is not available. This also can happen if you added or removed a device from FireWire. Please try again.

But, my camera is connected, the FW cable is connected....the camera can play other tapes, it is set on PLAY (VCR)...so what am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your asistance.

Hi Macsmug

Welcome to discussions. First exit im. Turn your camera off. Go to utilities and repair permissions. Now open im. Your project should load your project. Make sure the playhead is at the start of your movie. Select camera on the camera on the edit mode switch.

Make sure you have a tape in the camera with a tape that is not in lock mode so you can tape over anything that may have been on it previously. Turn on your video camera. Select VTR/VCR mode. Select >file>share. A sheet will appear>select video camera. Now click on share.

If your movie has effects etc. you may be greated with a message saying "your movie contains stills, effects ... etc which need to be rendered for export to idvd or tape. Click on render and proceed.

This may take a few minutes and then it should export to your camera.

I hope this helps

Thank you for your suggestions which I followed to the letter but to no avail. The iMovie is presently in MPEG-4 format.
When I switch to camera in the edit mode of im, I note that when clicking and holding on the camera icon, I get this info in a drop down window:
"ZR60 (Incompatible with project).
When I try to go ahead with the file>share I get another window:
"Error during import. The file could not be imported: The file "Tiger 100/Volumes/MaxtorStorage/Celebration/Clip 39.mov can't be imported: QuickTime couldn't parse it: -2048."
This 15 minute iMovie has been put onto a DVD and plays well on both a DVD Player connected to a TV and on Mac/PC.
The iMovie consists of 115 photos as well as one photo that has been crafted using the app PhototoMovie as well as a one minute video clip extracted from a previous iMovie that I made.
We have tested the DVD on a Koss DVD player connected to a NEC projector and video and sound is acceptable but there is intermittent and unpredictable occasional sticking where the screen either pauses on a photo as if it is hung there and then continues on or in fact is hung there and necessitates a complete restart of the DVD player which is too risky given this will be shown to an eager audience.
To eliminate this potential looming glitch, I thought of just transferring the iMovie to my Canon ZR60 and then have no compression audio/video connection to the NEC projector. And that's my story. Any further ideas or suggestions?

Hello once again
I think that Catspaw has the answer and I will cease my efforts in attempting to transfer to my DV Camera. (and BTW, the Maxtor is an Internal Drive - I have a 120 GB OWC external FW drive)
On the other matter of the DVD "sticking" or stalling, I thought it might be the cables so I tried it on my friend's DVD Player .. same result.. BUT..both of these DVD Players were made by KOSS and I headed off to my friendly Electronics Store and Mike (Da Man) told me itr wasn't the cables, it was the Koss DVD Players which he says are notorious for sticking. So, I took his word for it and bought a Toshiba DVD/CD Player SD3980 and the sticking and stalling has ceased completely ... so much for Koss.
Thanks all for your help. Very much appreciated.

Macsmug signing off for now.....
